How Hidden Electronic Dog Fences Work

Using a combination of technology and training, we help your pet learn to stay inside your yard, but away from any designated "Dog Free Zones" such as flower beds, pool or patio areas, etc.

Professional Dog Fence Training

The boundary line is marked with flags, providing a visual cue to your pet. When your pet approaches the flags, the receiver collar emits an audible warning tone. When your pet ventures past the warning area, closer to the flags, he or she will receive a slight electronic correction.

During initial training, the shock your pet feels is similar to the sensation you would receive if you shuffled across carpeting and then touched a metal doorknob. The training sessions are kept light and fun (with plenty of tantalizing treats) to help your pet learn more quickly.

After your pet has felt the corrections and is aware of where the boundaries are, the level of correction is raised to an appropriate setting (usually based on size, breed, and temperament) to keep him or her from leaving the yard. On average, initial training takes about 7 to 14 days. Once your pet knows where the boundaries are, the flags can be removed.

Technologically Advanced Pet Fencing Products

Your pet's fence consists of three pieces of equipment: The boundary wire, the transmitter, and the receiver. They work together, reinforced by the training, to keep your pet safely in your yard.

  1. The Boundary Wire is buried a few inches into the ground. Following landscaping makes it easier for your pet to remember where he can or can't play.

  2. The Transmitter is placed in an easily accessible location: usually inside the garage. It displays the settings of your pet's fence, and can be adjusted by you.

  3. The Receiver is worn by your pet. It picks up the encoded radio signal from the boundary wire, and emits a warning tone and/or correction, depending on individual settings.

Electric Dog Fence Layout - Perimeter

The Perimeter Layout is our most common installation. With this layout, your pet has the freedom to play throughout the entirety of your property. Regardless of which doorway your pet runs out of, he'll be inside the fence.

Electric Dog Fence Layout - Hourglass

The Hourglass Layout is also common. Like the Perimeter Layout, it offers protection regardless of which door your pet exits from. The side yards are "Dog Free Zones," so in order to go from the front yard to the back, or vice-versa, your pet will have to go through the house.

Electric Dog Fence Layout - Double Loop

The Double Loop Layout is generally only used when the terrain prevents either of the previous layouts from being installed. With the Double Loop the wire is buried around either the front or back yard only, so some of your doors will remain unprotected with this layout. The wire must then double back, about three feet away, to its starting point to complete the circuit.

We can customize your fence to fit your needs, for instance keeping the flower beds safe from digging, or the patio free of dog dirt.
